I read this book and really loved the human
element. The relationship between the boys and the guilt and
guilt resulting initially from just doing nothing
Really shows that standing by and doing nothing
can be just as horrific as doing nothing at all.
Also the release of confession. Brilliant.

I read this as my 14 year old daughter was due to see the film with school and I fell in love with it. Although I then read A Thousand Splendid Suns, it did not have the simplicity and starkness of this tale about love and rivalry between two boys, interspersed with detail about the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan. This has catapulted it's way into my top 10!
